Serial cable is an asynchronous communication cable used to transmit data one bit at a time between two devices. It is widely used in a variety of computing systems, including PCs and Macs, to connect peripherals such as modems, printers, scanners, and other external devices. Serial cables are typically made up of a twisted pair of conductors with a specified impedance. The most common type of serial cable is a DB–9 connector.
