Spanning tree loop is a network loop that is created when redundant paths exist between switches in a network. This loop can cause broadcast storms and other outages in the network. To prevent this, the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) is used to detect and eliminate any loops present in the network. STP uses a series of bridge protocol data units (BPDU) to identify and disable any redundant links, ensuring that only one path exists between two switches.
