Type 2 hypervisors, also known as host-based or hosted hypervisors, run on the operating system of the physical host computer. They enable multiple virtual machines to be installed on the same physical host computer, allowing for greater resource utilization and improved performance. Type 2 hypervisors are typically more lightweight and easier to set up than Type 1 hypervisors, and are typically used in development and test environments. Examples of Type 2 hypervisors include Oracle VirtualBox, VMware Workstation, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
