Extended ACLs should be applied on routers, as they are used to filter traffic between networks. They should be applied in a strategic location that can provide the most effective control over the traffic. This could be at the edge of the network, or closer to the source or destination. It is important to remember that ACLs should be applied as close to the source or destination as possible, to minimize the amount of traffic that must traverse the network.
