FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is considered out–of–band because its connection operates outside of the main communication channel/network. This means that transferring files via FTP will not interfere with core network communications or latency issues associated with regular in–band communication. FTP is also more secure than in–band communications as it requires authentication and file encryption, making it ideal for transferring sensitive information.
