The amount of RAM that is usable is often limited by the operating system or other hardware on the computer. For example, 32-bit versions of Windows can only address up to 4GB of RAM, so if you have more than 4GB installed, only 4GB will be usable. Additionally, if the computer has integrated graphics, some of the system memory is allocated for use by the graphics processor, reducing the amount of RAM usable by the system.
