The operating system communicates with hardware devices through device drivers. Device drivers are small pieces of software that allow the operating system to communicate with the hardware device and control how it operates. Device drivers contain instructions that tell the hardware device how to interact with the operating system, how to access and use resources, and how to respond to commands from the user.
