You can connect multiple routers together using Ethernet cables, router–to–router network bridges (wired or wireless), or a powerline adapter.
1. Using Ethernet Cables: To connect two routers with an Ethernet cable, you will need to use a standard Cat5, Cat5e, or Cat6 cable. Make sure to use the correct type of cable depending on the model of routers you are using.
Connect one end of the cable to the WAN/ LAN port of the main router and the other end to the LAN port of the second router. Log in to the main router’s web–based setup page and enable the DHCP server feature. Then, log in to the setup page of the second router and configure the WAN connection type as “Static” and enter the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway of the main router.
2. Router–to–Router Network Bridges: This is the most common and simple method for setting up a multi–router network. It also allows you to share resources between multiple devices. To set up a router–to–router network bridge, you will need two routers with compatible wireless standards (such as 802.11n). On both routers, configure the same SSID (wireless network name) and the same type of security settings (such as WPA2).
Then, connect the main router to the Internet using an Ethernet cable. Log in to the setup page and enable the DHCP server feature. On the second router, configure the WAN connection type as “Static” and enter the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway of the main router. Finally, connect the two routers using an Ethernet cable.
3. Powerline Adapters: Powerline adapters are a great way to set up a multi–router network without running Ethernet cables between each device. All you need to do is plug the adapters into a power outlet and then connect a router to each adapter using an Ethernet cable. The routers will then be able to communicate with each other securely over the power lines.
