1. Connect the serial cable from the Cisco switch’s console port to the PC’s serial port.
2. Set the PC’s serial port settings to match the Cisco switch.
3. Launch a terminal emulation program on the PC such as HyperTerminal or PuTTY.
4. Select the serial port and the baud rate settings on the terminal emulation program.
5. Power on the Cisco switch.
6. Press the Enter key on the terminal emulation program to begin the console session.
7. Enter the login credentials on the terminal to log in to the Cisco switch.
