VLAN stands for Virtual Local Area Network. It is a network of computers, servers, and other network devices that are logically isolated from one another even though they may be physically connected to the same switch or router. Traditional LANs use physical connections, but VLANs use logical connections instead. They are used to separate different user groups or to segment a large local area network (LAN) into smaller, more efficient networks. Each VLAN behaves as if it were a separate physical LAN and each computer in a VLAN must belong to the same broadcast domain. The broadcast traffic of every VLAN is completely isolated from every other, even when they are connected to the same physical switch. This increases network security, performance and reliability.
