The data link layer is responsible for the physical transmission of data between two nodes on a network. It provides error detection and correction, as well as reliability to the network through flow control and medium access control. It is the first layer of the OSI (Open Systems Interconnect) reference model that provides the network connection with a reliable link. It is also responsible for addressing, routing frames and encryption of data. It is also responsible for controlling access rights to the network, as well as providing authentication
