ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) is used to map IP addresses to the physical hardware addresses of devices on a local network. Specifically, it maps an IP address to a MAC address (Media Access Control address).
ARP maps a Media Access Control (MAC) address to an Internet Protocol (IP) address. The MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to a network interface controller (NIC) for communication on a network. The IP address is a numerical label assigned to a device connected to a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication.
